Drug description
Anti-Itch Agent APOQUEL
Apoquel is indicated for dogs with dermatitis associated with allergies (contact, food, parasitic) to relieve itching and reduce skin lesions, and to prevent recurrence of atopic dermatitis.
Apoquel is available in three dosages: 3.6 mg, 5.4 mg, and 16 mg of oclacitinib maleate per tablet.
Oclacitinib maleate at therapeutic doses inhibits pro-inflammatory, pro-allergic, and pruritogenic cytokines dependent on JAK1 or JAK3. After oral administration, it is rapidly absorbed (bioavailability 89%), reaching maximum plasma concentration in less than 1 hour. Half-life is 3–4 hours.
Single dose: 0.4–0.6 mg oclacitinib per kg body weight twice daily for 14 days. For maintenance therapy of atopic dermatitis – once daily at the same dose.
