Drug description
Antiparasitic Agent SIMPARICA
Simparica is indicated for dogs for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis, C. canis) and tick infestations, as well as sarcoptic mange, ear mites (otodectes), and demodicosis.
The product is available in six dosage strengths: 5, 10, 20, 40, 80, and 120 mg of sarolaner per tablet.
Sarolaner inhibits GABA-gated chloride channels and glutamate-gated chloride channels in arthropod nerve and muscle cells, causing uncontrolled neuromuscular activity and death. After administration, fleas are killed within 3 hours and ticks within 8 hours. Efficacy lasts at least 35 days.
Simparica is administered orally at a minimum dose of 2 mg/kg body weight. During the flea and tick season, the product should be administered monthly.
