Lumpy skin disease in cattle (LSD): what every farmer needs to know
Lumpy skin disease — a cattle viral disease spread by blood-sucking insects. Symptoms, diagnosis and preventive vaccination scheme.

Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is a viral disease of cattle that spreads rapidly through blood-sucking insects. In recent years the disease has been recorded in several regions of Central Asia.
The first signs of LSD are a sharp rise in body temperature to 40–41°C, loss of appetite, and heavy lacrimation. Within 48–72 hours, characteristic firm nodules 2–5 cm in diameter appear on the skin.
To date, there is no specific treatment. The only effective method of protection is timely preventive vaccination. The optimal period for Uzbekistan is February–March, before the active flight of insects begins.
